The Public Works Department is thrilled to announce the approval of Phase II of the Chadwick Flyer Trail by the Board of Aldermen for construction. Crawford, Miller Tilly Engineering, in collaboration with City staff, has diligently worked to determine alignment, secure right-of-way, design, and prepare bid documents for this phase. After receiving bids on April 18th, the City received proposals from 6 contractors, with Emery Sapp & Sons submitting the lowest qualified bid. Emery Sapp & Sons brings extensive experience in hard surface trail projects, exemplified by their recent work on the Fulbright Spring Greenway Trail in Springfield.
Phase II of the Chadwick Flyer Trail will encompass nearly 4,300 linear feet of new hard surface trail, extending the existing portion along the west side of N 22nd Street near Garton Road within the Olde World Subdivision. This concrete trail serves as a significant phase of a multi-modal trail identified in the Regional Bike and Pedestrian Trail Investment Study (RBPTIS), developed in collaboration with planning partners at the Ozark Transportation Organization (OTO) and Ozark Greenways (OG). Together, our organizations have coordinated with Tracker Marine to determine the appropriate alignment, aiming to enhance connectivity between our Historic Downtown Square and the City of Springfield.

We extend our gratitude to our planning partners, particularly Tracker Marine, for generously donating the necessary easements to facilitate regional recreational and alternative transportation opportunities for our community. Construction is scheduled to commence in July of this year, with an anticipated completion date of November 30th, 2024. We look forward to seeing you on the trail!
