Water meters have a radio transmitter on the meter pit lid. This transmitter is crucial for accurately billing water usage and detecting potential leaks early. Please help prevent damage to these transmitters.
Common causes of damage:
- Impact from yard equipment, such as lawnmowers
- Placing heavy objects on or near the meter lid
- Striking or running over meter lid
How to avoid damaging the transmitter:
- Clearly mark the location of your meter pit to avoid accidental contact
- Exercise caution when mowing or using yard equipment near the meter pit
- Avoid placing heavy items or debris on top of the meter lid
- Inform family members or landscapers about the transmitter's location
If a water technician discovers a damaged transmitter, it will be repaired at no cost to the customer the first time. However, If damage is found a second time, the customer will be responsible for a replacement fee of up to $250, as outlined in Ozark City Ordinance Section 700.090. This ordinance requires water users to bear the cost of damages to the City's water meter and/or components for any cause other than normal wear and tear.
