Group Swim Lessons
Our swim lessons are now based on the renowned Starfish Aquatic Institute (SAI) curriculum dedicated to water safety training and certification worldwide. With a revamped, learner-focused structure organized into color-coded levels, we aim to accelerate skill development, reducing the need for level repetition. This change ensures that more participants can benefit from our program.
Our goal is for everyone to be safe and have fun in the water!

Registration:
Swim lesson sessions consist of four (4) 30-minute classes. Each session starts at the beginning of each month. Registration closes two (2) days before the start date. After the registration deadline, there is a $10 fee. If registering after the deadline, you MUST call (417-581-7002) or email (aquatics@ozarkmissouri.org) to see if registration is still available for that session.
There are no refunds, credits, or class make-ups offered once registration is complete. By registering, you are holding a spot for your child for the entire session, whether you attend zero or all classes.

Parent/Child Class
Age: 6 - 17 mo.
This introductory course introduces infants/toddlers to the water in a fun and loving environment. Parents or caregivers are taught effective techniques to teach their infants/toddlers how to float, submerge, move in the water, and roll over to breathe. Classes incorporate songs, activities, and water safety education.

Benchmarks:
- Safety Benchmark: Always ask permission before entering the water.
- Swim Benchmark: Relaxed submersion (3 seconds for preschoolers, 5 seconds for youth and adults).

- Pour water over the head and face
- Tuck & stand from the front
- Breath-hold & look under the water

- Kicking on the front and back 3m/10ft.

- Reach or throw assist with flotation. The student should also be able to contact emergency services, such as calling 911 or the appropriate number for the location, and to know “See, Yell, Tell” if they see someone submerged under the water who is not coming to the surface.
- Swim Benchmark: Side-roll-side with kick 10m/20ft.
Skill Steps:
- Front and back streamline with kick
- Swim underwater 1m/3ft.
- Side breathing position with kick
- Side-roll-side with kick 5m/15ft.

Benchmarks:
- Safety Benchmark: Disorienting entries and recovery. When feasible, this skill should be conducted in swimwear and clothes such as a shirt, shorts and shoes or sandals.
- Swim Benchmark: Starfish Safer Swimmer Aware, which includes this skill sequence: ask permission to enter the water, jump or roll into the water over the head, resurface and tread water 1 minute, swim 50m/yd. using arm and leg movements on the front or the back.
Skill Steps:
- 3 strokes – STOP drill
- 3 strokes – ROLL drill
- 3 x 3 drill
- Tread water 40 seconds
