Ozark, Mo. -- The City of Ozark is pleased to announce Cameron Smith has been appointed as the new assistant city administrator. The Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Monday night to approve the recommendation from City Administrator Eric Johnson.
Smith has served as the city’s community development director for the past seven years. His accomplishments include updating the Ozark Comprehensive Plan, adopting a Dark Sky ordinance, initiating the American Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan, and launching the Onward Ozark Corridor Study. Smith streamlined the online permitting process to keep up with the market and development trends and to preserve smart growth. He also refined Ozark’s Code Compliance system.
“Cameron is a time-tested, proven professional with extensive public and private experience. Every day, local government presents new opportunities and challenges,” said Eric Johnson, city administrator. “His ability to navigate complex situations and obstacles will be very valuable as he adjusts to his new role in Ozark.”
As assistant city administrator, Smith will work closely with Johnson and other city leaders to support the day-to-day city operations and contribute to long-term strategic planning.
“It is an honor to be considered and appointed to this new role. I am greatly appreciative of the support from the Board of Aldermen, City Administrator, City Departments, and my fellow team members,” said Smith. “It is an opportunity that I look forward to and am committed to giving my best service to the City of Ozark.”
Moving forward, Ozark’s leadership team now has the opportunity to select a new planning and development director, providing a golden opportunity to assess the planning landscape and recruit a highly qualified applicant who can help to creatively balance current and long-range planning needs.
“Change and transition always present new and emerging opportunities,” said Johnson. “It's likely this recruitment process will involve several community stakeholders with an interest in helping to select Ozark’s next planning director.”
Smith will begin his duties as Assistant City Administrator on October 26.
